Rooms to go dining sets – Good interior design, especially in small spaces, employs the practice of editing as well as choosing the right elements. Small dining rooms in particular pose a bigger challenge than most other small spaces, simply because dining tables tend to take up a lot of space. A small dining room looks bigger when I design it with smaller-scale furniture, minimal accessories and a palette of light-colored colors.
In a small space, you can have all the traditional dining room elements if you start with a small-scale table. A small rectangular table that fits well four armless chairs two on each long side takes up less space than even a standard sized round table. Only the most compact spaces that will not have enough space for a reduced scale buffet along one wall. Old desktops or library tables offer the right proportions just like some modern desks.
In general, the first and last piece of advice in the design of a small dining room is the use of a round table. An oval table is another space saving if the room is long, but if the room is square, go with a round table. It does not matter what the style of the table is, but a pedestal table takes up less space than a table with four legs. Similarly, a folding wing table takes up much less space when its leaves have been reduced. Glass top or fully acrylic tables give the illusion that space is bigger than it is.
